Experience:

Mr. Mellen has more than 10 years of experience in residential, industrial, and commercial engineering. He regularly meets with clients, City and County agencies to address issues and complete project approvals according t schedules and budgets. Mr. Mellen has been involved in the planning and design of over 3000 acres of grading, paving, water, sewer, irrigation, and survey for multiple types or work. Mr. Mellen has the ability to look at the project picture from a global standpoint, which helps foresee upcoming hurdles or issues that could delay a project for approval or permitting. He has worked on various projects in the public and private sectors, dealing with commercial and subdivision master components. DESERT RIDGE SUPERBLOCK 8 – Phoenix, Arizona

Project Manager for a 250 acre Master Plan Community working with the State Land Department and Army Corps of Engineers on the 4 full width (150’-200’) jurisdictional corridors, City of Phoenix and Desert Ridge Committee on planning and engineer solutions, and APSon the under grounding of 69 kV overhead electric lines. The project involved coordination with other master plan communities due to the installation of 24” main water lines and a 42” main sewer line.

DESERT RIDGE SUPERBLOCK 11 – Phoenix, Arizona

Project Manager for this 920 lot, 280-acre State Land Auction piece of property that was governed by the Desert Ridge Guidelines, in addition to the City of Phoenix Specifications.The project involved single family and multi-family housing products. The scope of work involved working with the State Land Department and Army Corps of Engineers on the full width (150’-200’) jurisdictional corridors, Paradise Valley School District on a drainage solution for offsite flow discharge, City of Phoenix and Desert Ridge Committee on planning and engineer solutions, and APS on the under grounding of dual 230 kV overhead electric lines.

DESERT RIDGE SUPERBLOCK 1 SOUTH – Phoenix, Arizona

Project Manager for this 1500 lot, 500-acre subdivision which offered the unique experience of project management for a joint venture involving two valley home builders. The product mix and design criteria were varied across the spectrum and involved new multi-family designs by both builders. The site constraints of 4 wash corridors requiring floodwalls and half of the site lying in the AO flood zone provided a formidable design task. Several variations of site grading were analyzed to offer the most cost effective combination of retaining walls, fill import, wet utilities and cutoff walls.

EAGLE SHADOW – City of Maricopa, Arizona

One of two Project managers for 486 acre phase IA and IB master plan community. This project included producing plans of offsite and onsite paving, grading, sewer, and water, as well as coordination with Municipal water Companies, Irrigation, and the Maricopa County Flood Control District This project required a CLOMR/LOMR to get approved. Offsite Regional Drainage Channel design was also required. The Channel is called the Santa Cruz Wash.

TESSERACT MIDDLE HIGH SCHOOL – Phoenix, Arizona

Project manager for a 9 acre school site including a soccer field.This project included producing plans of offsite and onsite paving, grading, private sewer, and water, landscape, water and sewer hydraulic calculations, and neighbor presentations as well as coordination with the building, mechanical, structural, plumbing and electric. This project had quite a bit of APS, southwest gas and cox coordination with the existing site.

WEST SEDONA ELEMENTARY - Sedona, Arizona

Project manager for a 3 phase commercial 15 acre School Site. This project included producing plans of offsite and onsite paving, grading, sewer, and water, as well as coordination with the city to accommodate various types of water quality structures and retention. Worked with Stormtech on this project for solutions to water quality problems and value engineering. This project was very detail oriented due to the existing school site surrounding the new construction. This project is currently on going.

RED ROCK HIGH SCHOOL - Sedona, Arizona

Project manager for approximately 10 acres of the Red Rock High school with additional sport courts.This project included producing plans of onsite paving, grading, sewer, and water, as well as coordination with the existing site, landscape architect, mechanical, structural, and contractor for ongoing solutions to existing problems.

BIG PARK COMMUNITY SCHOOL - Sedona, Arizona

Project manager for commercial 16 acre school and sport courts. This project included producing plans of onsite paving, grading, sewer, and water, as well as coordination with the building and landscape architect, mechanical, structural, and reclaimed water services. This project had quite a bit of offsite hydrology coordination with the Yavapai flood control district. A high amount of field survey was need to supplement the design aerial due to the amount of existing improvements.

ROBERT L. DUFFY HIGH SCHOOL – Phoenix, Arizona

Project manager for Charter High School.This project included producing plans of offsite and onsite paving, grading, sewer, and water, as well as coordination with the building and landscape architect, mechanical, structural, and reclaimed water services. This project had 14 different utility companies to coordinate with as well as environmental problems we had to resolve. Since the project was located right next to the new light rail the project was considered high profile with the City of Phoenix.

ROGERS RANCH ELEMENTARY –LAVEEN, Arizona

Roger Ranch Elementary was a 9 acre school site located in Laveen, Arizona. Designed and Managed water, sewer, fire line, storm water pollution prevention plans, and an on site drainage report, as well as paving and grading plans including basketball and tetherball court details. This project required coordination to tie into the existing infrastructure as well as dedicating easements to construct in and drain into the Laveen Conveyance Channel.

MARRIOTT RESORT – Phoenix, Arizona

Design engineer/hydrologist for commercial phase, 312 acre resort site. Designed grading and performed a hydrological analysis for phase four of the Marriott Resort.

SARIVAL WARD – Goodyear, Arizona

Project engineer/manager/Hydrologist for this commercial 13 acre church site.This project included producing plans of offsite and onsite paving, grading, sewer and water, and a Drainage Report. Extensive coordination with building and landscape architect, mechanical, and structural was required.

POWER NISSAN – Chandler, Arizona

Project engineer/manager/hyrologist for commercial 24 acre car dealership. This project included producing plans of offsite and onsite paving, grading, sewer, and water, as well as coordination with the city to accommodate various types of underground retention. Worked with Stormtech and CMP on this project for solutions to retention problems. Also coordinated with the building and landscape architect, mechanical, structural, and reclaimed water services.

LOU GRUBB DODGE – Phoenix, Arizona

Project engineer/manager/hydrologist for commercial 12 acre car dealership. This project included hydrological analysis of a new six acre parking area and the coordination with client and municipalities to get project approved in a timely manner.

SANTAN FORD – Town of Gilbert, Arizona

Project engineer/manager/hydrologist for commercial 16 acre car dealership, which included management and design work for entire dealership. Produced plans of offsite and onsite paving, grading, sewer, and water, and worked with the city to accommodate various types of underground retention. The project also included working with Stormtech and CMP for solutions to retention problems, as well as coordinating with the building and landscape architect, mechanical, structural, and reclaimed water services.

RANCHO EL DORADO – City of Maricopa, Pinal County, Arizona

Design engineer for this residential lake project of 180 acres on a 440 acre site. Coordinated with flood plain issues relusting in providing site protection per Pinal County standards. I designed onsite Hydrology and Hydraulics to accommodate the 5 acre lake in the center of the site. The main hydrologic concern for this project was protecting the houses from site outfall, which was a challenging feet due to the flat elevations of the site and the 5 acre lake in the middle.

BAILEY COMMONS – Phoenix, Arizona

Project engineer/manager/hydrologist for this 112 acre cluster home project, which included, paving, water, sewer, grading and drainage plans for entire site. Ran the project from budgeting to construction management and worked closely with all facets of project to ensure a timeliness submittal.

ROOKS ROAD SEWER – Buckeye, Arizona

Project engineer/Manager for system modeling, design and construction production on two miles of sewer pipe that routes sewer from Westpark residential project to a sewer treatment plant which will provide multiple developers tie-in points.

GREER RANCH – Surprise, Arizona

Assistant Project Manager for this 1,000 lot, 320-acre subdivision which included coordination between the City of Surprise, Maricopa County Department of Transportation, ADOT, Arizona American Water, Maricopa Water District and Maricopa County Flood Control. Trunk sewer and water mains were designed and installed as part of the project. In addition, arterial streets and intersections were improved as part of the development agreement.

SUNDANCE – Buckeye, Arizona

Design engineer/hydrologist for residential 450 acre master planned community. Completed mass grading design for Parcels 12, 13, 15, 18, 22, 41, 43b, designed water, sewer, and paving for given parcels, and coordinated with Greg Nash for golf course grading.

WESTPARK – Buckeye, Arizona

Project engineer/Hydrologist for residential community, Westpark Phase One, which consisted of approximately 1100 lots and 260 acres of agricultural land .Designed water, sewer, and paving for entire project, held meetings with utility municipalities, and coordinated with landscape architects to ensure proper retention within site. Dealt with field problems and followed project through to end for post project evaluations.

VISTA DE MONTANA – Buckeye, Arizona

Project engineer/manager/Hydrologist for this single family residential community of approximately 1600 homes, five phases and approximately 240 acres. Performed plan production of Infrastructure paving, water, and sewer. Also, designed and produced grading, paving, water and sewer for onsite. Worked with client to accommodate earthwork issues. Coordinated project with all utility, landscape, and surrounding engineering firms.
